How It Works
During motor deceleration, the motor operates as a generator and feeds the resulting braking energy back into the DC bus of the frequency inverter. This causes the DC bus voltage to rise.
As soon as the preset switching threshold is reached, the Sourcetronic SBU Braking Unit automatically activates the connected braking resistor. The excess energy is converted into heat in a controlled manner and safely dissipated. This keeps the DC bus voltage within the permissible limits and reliably protects the frequency inverter against overvoltage.
This proven method enables short braking times, high braking torque, and reliable operation even in demanding applications with frequent acceleration and braking cycles.
