ST500 | Power: Motor – Frequency converter

Question: Can a 5.5kW motor be operated with a 7.5kW inverter?

Yes, a 5.5 kW motor can be operated with a 7.5 kW inverter.

As a rule of thumb, the rated power of the motor should not be less than 1/4 of the rated power of the inverter.
The rated power of the inverter and the rated power of the motor should not deviate more than two inverter power steps up or down.
If the deviation is greater, the automatic calibration may fail.

If the motor is operated above its rated frequency in delta instead of star, the calculated increased power is to be used instead of the rated power.

The use of a smaller inverter is only permissible if the motor is not operated at full power.

It should be noted that the load capacity limit of the inverter does not primarily refer to the power, but rather to the current.
The power (at rated voltage) is only given because this is the predominantly used value in motor classification.

Using a much larger inverter will not cause damage, but may result in loud, unsteady running.
