ST500 | Err.06, what does this message mean and what can you do?

If the error message Err.06 appears on the frequency inverter display, it indicates an overvoltage in the DC link during the braking phase.

Causes:

  • The absence of a brake unit or brake resistor, too high input voltage at the frequency inverter, or a torque accelerating the motor during braking can cause this error. A too short braking time (F0.14) can also trigger this error message.

Solutions:

  • Install a brake unit or brake resistor.
  • Check the input voltage.
  • Reduce accelerating torque during the braking process.
  • Increase braking time using parameter F0.14.
  • If additional braking times are used, also adjust F7.08 to F7.13.
  • F0.15=1 allows setting the braking time in 0.1 sec steps.
