Brugen af hurtigt skiftende effekthalvledere øger problemet med at drive trefasede motorer på frekvensomformere. Motordrossler giver den grundlæggende beskyttelse mellem frekvensomformer og motoren. Spændingsforskelle udjævnes, og isoleringsstyrken og levetiden for viklingstrådene i motoren forbedres. Reduktion af kantstejlheden beskytter også motoren. Med deres positive indflydelse på den elektromagnetiske kompatibilitet med andre systemkomponenter sikrer motorchokes større strømkvalitet i hele drivsystemet.
