The fan motor – an important component in industrial facilities

Fans and their motors have become indispensable in modern industrial plants. Whether for ventilation of warehouses, cold stores for cooling or just for fresh air – fan motors are everywhere. The various fans available hardly differ in terms of function, but rather in their area and in the area of ​​use. It is easy to recognize that a fan for cooling must meet other requirements as a fan for air-conditioning systems. Further attention should be paid to the control and energy efficiency. For new regulations, for example by frequency inverters, the energy consumption is reduced, and the life of the fan motors is also prolonged.

The structure of the fan motor

Fan motors are very simple in construction. They consist of a synchronous or asynchronous electric motor, with a fan wheel of the associated shaft, and the connections for the lines. However, DC motors are used (e.g. in computers or in a car). All motors consist of a stator and contain a rotating rotor inside, which is surrounded by pole-pieces. The types and sizes of the fan motors are very different and differentiate heavily among themselves. The reason for this is the area and the performance of the engines. The higher the performance, the more complex the structure needs to be.

Control the fan motor with inverters

There are several ways to control fan motors, and the most effective option is by frequency inverters. This is only for AC and DC motors, because the inverter changes the frequency and thus controls the speed. Through special programs, the start-up and braking process can be optimally controlled. This overloading and unnecessary wear and tear can be prevented so that the maintenance, and maintenance costs, are reduced. In modern plants, flexible inverters are used almost exclusively for control and have become an indispensable piece of technology that is here to stay.
